How ?[edit]

The table above is linked from both Rail lengths and Rail weights, and a lot of the information is common; hence a common table.

Question: How does one embed this table in the above two pages? FarleyBrook (talk) 01:11, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

If I've got it right (haven't tried here) you make a template of the table. Start a page by the name of "Template:the title you want", copypaste the table, then you can embed it by linking the title minus "Template:" within pairs of curly brackets: {{title}}. ––IP (talk) 01:37, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
Excellent research, by the way. And divination! But it would be good if some admin could eliminate the leading 0's from sight… --IP (talk) 01:42, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanx. I am still learning how Wikipedia (and Festipedia) works. FarleyBrook (talk) 09:46, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

Getting rid of leading zeros[edit]

It occurred to me that if I do the same as when linking an article from a word other than its title – like this example, using a vertical slash: [[Template:Rail weights (table)|this]]? Thus "050|50 lb" etc. And it seems to work.

But it doesn't work for getting series like 20 - 30 - 2000 in order (by typing 0020|20 - 0030|30 - 2000), nor with anything before in the same box (which then becomes invisible). At least when I tried on the horsepowers and works numbers in the Cwt-y-Bugail Quarry list. --IP (talk) 15:31, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

The leading zero problem still needs some work!! FarleyBrook (talk) 04:03, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

Yes. And now I can't get the dates here to work. --IP (talk) 16:24, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
The may be a wiki command to select date format, perhaps {{date|format=DMY}} instead of {{date|format=DMY}} FarleyBrook (talk) 09:27, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Getting rid of unneeded pages[edit]

Another thing: do you need this page now that you have the template? If not, you can ask for deletion using this template, filling in the reason and asking for fast deletion in the edit summary: {{Fast delete|reason}}.

If a deletion might be controversial, here's the template for "slow" deletion: {{subst:Deletion proposed|reason}} --IP (talk) 15:42, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

Sorting dates in wikitable[edit]

See Wiki FarleyBrook (talk) 09:48, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. Oh yes, of course there's a separate code for dates. I treated them just as any figures…
But still (without dedicating myself to the problem) I can see no logic in the way they behaved in the metal slate wagons table. --IP (talk) 16:16, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
