Deviation

Dduallt

A commemorative stone placed close to the location where the first sod was turned in the construction of the deviation. Digging started at 3pm on Saturday 2nd January 1965. Lots were drawn and the winner was Dr. Michael J.T. Lewis, of Cambridge, to whom fell the honour of turning the first sod. Amongst others present were Gerald Fox, Peter Jamieson, John Collier, John Carter, Paul Bradshaw, Moragh Walker, Michael Schumann, Dan Wilson, Jonathan Tyler, and Jim Foster.

Within the first weekend of working, 12 yards of formation had been cleared, and a construction railway had been started!.

Due to its location, and positioning, it is best seen, from the train, on the down trip from Blaenau
