In December 1878 an American, William H. Bishop visited the Railway. He penned an article that appeared in August 1879 Edition of 'Scribner's Monthly'
The article and accompanying engravings has been reprinted in its entirety in The Spooner Album pps 94 - 106
Highlights of the visit included:
- Bishop meeting Charles Easton & his son Percy
- A description of a journey up the line, some of which was on the footplate of Little Wonder, in the snow on a quarryman's train (of Quarrymen's Carriages)
- A description of a derailment of Princess at Tanygrisiau
- Portmadoc at Christmastime
- An engraving of the Boat
