Pont Rhyddin Halt

Pont Rhyddin was a one-time name for the former loop/siding at Portreuddyn, located some ½ mile to the south of Pont Croesor.

(See the Portreuddyn page for fuller detail of this location.)

The location has, rather confusingly, been known by various names, and many are probably due to mis-interpretation of the original Welsh name.

It is variously recorded as :

Portreuddyn - the Castle is located nearby and was the nearest structure of consequence. (See O.S. map.)

Pont Reuddyn - this name seems to be a name in local use at the time of the Croesor Tramway

Pont Rhyddin - this name only seems to appear a couple of times, in printed histories of the Welsh Highland

[Boyd actually makes mixed use of the name. Vol. 2 (p.15), for instance, shows a map title of Pont Rhyddin Halt (with no reference to Portreuddyn), whilst the main text, a paragraph (p.17) refers to Portreuddyn, with no reference to Pont Rhyddin.]
