This diminutive 1896-built Bagnall 2-4-0T from the Groudle Glen Railway on the Isle of Man featured at the 1997 Gala. Although Sea Lion crossed the Irish Sea a number of times during its restoration, the Gala was the first time in the loco's 101-year history that it had worked on another railway.

Sea Lion's sister engine, 'Polar Bear', based at Amberley Museum, was due to visit the FR for the 2010 'Quirks & Curiosities' event, but was unable to attend due to a broken spring.
