There is possibility of a misread on this name.
Boyd, in his list of directors refers as Thomas Plunkett Caines[1], whereas Johnson lists as Thomas Plunkett Cairnes.[2]
1881 census gives a Thomas Caines, a herbalist age 69 living in Lambeth, London and born in nearby Bermondsey. This person seems to be the most likely of all references given.
