FESTINIOG RAILWAY SOCIETY LIMITED

PRESS NOTICE Special trains will again be run this year on the Western Region and on the Festiniog Railway in connection with the Society's Annual General Meeting at Portmadoc on 18th April 1959.

The Western Region train will leave Paddington at about 7.40 a.m. calling at High Wycombe, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury and Ruabon, and arrive at Minffordd at about 2.45 p.m. 1959 being the centenary year of Brunel's death, it is hoped that it will be hauled from Paddington to Ruabon by Castle class locomotive; 5069, "Isambard Kingdom Brunel”, which has recently acquired a double chimney and blast-pipe. Full refreshment facilities will be available on the train. On the Festiniog, two specials will be run from Minffordd to Tan-y-Bwlch in connection with the Western Region train; one of these will call on its return trip at Boston Lodge to enable visitors to inspect the works, whilst the other will wait at Tan-y-Bwlch to allow time 'for passengers to inspect that section of the line above, which is still awaiting re-opening.

The Western Region train will leave Portmadoc after the meeting, at 10.15 p.m., and arrive back at Paddington at about 8 a.m. on Sunday, 19th April.

Participation in this trip is open to non-members as well as to members of the Society, and affords an excellent opportunity to visit the Festiniog at very low cost. Full details may be obtained from Mr. H. T. S. Bailey, 80 Bessborough Place, London, S. W. 1. Please enclose a stamped, addressed envelope for reply.

January 1959.
