Scheduled for 7029 Clun Castle Paddington - Ruabon, the train was worked to Banbury by Brush ‘47’ which there handed over to Oxford’s 6849 ‘Walton Grange’ for the run to Shrewsbury. Manors 7812 Erlestoke & 7802 Bradley handled the train to and from Portmadoc, the return being via Crewe, where a revived ‘Clun Castle’ was waiting to put in a belated appearance. The ALCo Mountaineer and Blanche with varnished stock departing Porthmadog Harbour Station with the AGM train, 26 April 1969. It was chosen as Mountaineer's name day. The locomotive's new cab is yet to be fitted with spectacle plate glass. The flared chimney is borrowed from Linda (which was having its boiler superheated at Hunslet at the time). Note the original bell of FR England No. 3 installed on its namesake. Blanche's driver is Anthony Massau, whilst Mountaineer is driven by Allan Garraway.
