In some cases tickets are marked "UP" or "DOWN". Please note that on the Festiniog, up trains are those which are going up the hill, i.e. from Portmadoc to Tan-y-bwlch. Seats in the observation car and Buffet no. 14 have been separately allocated for the up and down journeys to allow the greatest number of people to travel in them, but no other specific allocation of seats has been made in the down direction in order to allow a free choice of train.

Three return trains will run from Tan-y-bwlch to Portmadoc, the first two calling at Boston lodge, and the third running non-stop to Portmadoc, for the benefit of those who want to spend more time at Tan-y-bwlch.

Please, therefore, select your down train according to your requirements in this connection, regardless of which train you came up in. But remember -if you want to have a look round Boston Lodge, you must go down on either the first or second train.

As there are approximately 500 passengers travelling on the special to-day (the largest number ever), please assist in the smooth handling of the operation by making up your mind as far as possible which train you wish to travel in (or where your reserved accommodation is, in the case of first class passengers), and by getting aboard with the minimum of delay, so that trains may be got away to time.

During the past winter, as throughout the whole of the last 10 years, a tremendous amount of unremitting hard work has gone into the restoration and maintenance of our railway, and our enjoyment of this afternoon is due in no small measure to the General Manager, his permanent staff, and the many volunteers who give their time to the railway.

We should like also to express our thanks to the Western and London Midland Regions of British Railways, whose staff have planned the operation of our special in their usual helpful and enthusiastic manner.

AT PORTMADOC Members of the Festiniog Railway Society Ltd. have already received details of the Annual General Meeting. For non-members, a showing of transport films will take place throughout the evening, from 7. 15 until about 9.45 p.m. at the British Legion Hall, Snowdon Street. This has been planned as a continuous performance, so that you may come and go as you please during the course of the evening.

A number of catering establishments have indicated to us that they will remain open for our benefit beyond their usual hours, and we therefore give a list, which we hope may be helpful. The sketch plan of Portmadoc below will assist in locating the various points of interest.
