THE 1974 FESTINIOG A.G.M. SPECIAL SATURDAY 27th APPRIL 1974 A special excursion train is being organised to run in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting of the Festiniog Railway Society being held in Portmadoc. Intending participants from the Leicester area can join this excursion by using the service train from Leicester to Birmingham.

ROUTE : From Birmingham the train connects with the main excursion at Crewe. The outward rail journey terminates at Bangor on the North Wales Coast line. A fleet of coaches will meet the train at Bangor and passengers will transfer to these for the journey to Portmadoc. For society members the next item on the agenda will be the A.G.M. For non-members a coach tour of Snowdonia, including the Festiniog Railway and the Llechwedd Slate caverns, has been arranged.

THE FESTINIOG RAILWAY : With its trains of modern tourist coaches equipped with fully licenced buffet bars the Festiniog Railway is one of the major attractions of Snowdonia and Forth Wales. Visible from the trains are panoramic views of Snowdonia Harlech Castle, Borth-y-Gest, the Dwyryd Valley, Maentwrog, Llyn Mair,Trawsfyndd and Ffestiniog.

COST : The fare for the excursion is divided into three parts

1) The normal day return fare from Leicester to Birmingham is £1.30.

If more than 10 people travel a special reduced fare can be obtained. In the event of this happening a refund will be made.

2) The fare from Birmingham,inclusive of reserved seats, coach connections, printed tour itinerary and map, and free competition with prizes, is £3.90.

3) The supplement for the tour of Snowdonia, which includes a journey on the Festiniog Railway (dep. 13.15hrs.) and visit with admission to the Llechwedd Slate Caverns (including conducted tour and ride on the miners' tramway) is 85p.

Catering : Full catering services will be available when the train leaves Birmingham. Excellent 3 course tray meals (cold ham, salad in season, roll and butter, sweet and cheese and biscuits) may be ordered, in advance, for delivery after Chester on the outward Journey, price 77p.
