G.W.Stamper appears in notes connected with the Railway Letter Service

Sept 1st 1969: Normal cover used with the full (28th May 1969) set of stamps addressed to G.W. Stamper. These covers had been prepared for the North American Exhibition Tour of ‘Flying Scotsman’ and travelled with it. Those unsold were returned to Portmadoc, but put away and forgotten for over 20 years. They were offered for sale in 1994, jointly with a cover bearing a commemorative cancellation for the 28th May 1994 Anniversary of the R.L.S. Some covers were also prepared with the same stamps but with the ‘Little Wonder 1869’ envelope and were also despatched on 01/09/69, but to Colonel Andrew Campbell at Dduallt Manor – It is believed these covers were also among the 5,000 covers prepared for the U.S.A. tour.

An FR Co. Organisation Chart shows G. Stamper was an hon. official at Portmadoc responsible to the GM for records and returns. Michael Seymour was hon. Archivist at this time.[1]
