Snowdon

From Festipedia, hosted by the FR Heritage Group

Snowdon, Yr Wyddfa, the mountain that dominates the area in many ways.

Also, between about 1900 and Oct 1923, the official name of the station now known as Rhyd Ddu. It is the nearest station on the line to the summit and therefore an obvious tourist destination. It is not known how many visitors were disappointed on arrival at the station to see how much of the mountain remains to be climbed, but the name later reverted to South Snowdon. This is in itself odd as the station is much more West than South from the summit of Snowdon.

Since reopening the name has been Rhyd Ddu.
