Signals[edit]

Hiya-- I've been told that there'used to be signals at Ffestiniog station. Does anyone have any information on this? ---- many thanks CAZ

There was briefly an automatic colour light system using track circuits and relays (like at Tanybwlch and Minffordd). It was supposed to let a train into platform 3 and, if a second arrived another arrived, another into platform two. It was decommissioned after it switched the points under a long train that straddled multiple track circuits and caused a derailment. The old stations in Blaenau (pre-1946) had a very comprehensive semaphore system.Eheaps (talk) 19:29, 1 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

For some information and pictures of semaphore system pre-1946 see BF sections of Signal Boxes. MarkTemple (talk) 20:29, 1 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

New Page[edit]

I'm wondering whether the information about the current station should be moved to a new page called "Blaenau Ffestiniog Station" (or similar). That would leave this page as one about the town and quarries etc. with links being provided to the pages of all the various stations from history at appropriate points in the text. The Stations in Blaenau article can remain as a list page whilst this page would cover more detail of the general history of the area.

I would be prepared to carry out the work to implement the new structure.

Any thoughts? Eheaps (talk) 16:22, 28 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I like your suggestion. Go for it! MarkTemple (talk) 16:31, 28 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I've now written a new page at Blaenau Ffestiniog Station. I will now sort out all the links to this page to make sure they go to the appropriate page. Once that is done I will rewrite this page as a general history. Eheaps (talk) 17:20, 28 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This page is now re-written. It could do with more information on the general quarrying history and what has happened here subsequently added to the history section by someone who is more knowledgeable in that area. Perhaps parts of the wikipedia article could be adapted. Eheaps (talk) 18:43, 28 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Map misspelling of Oakeley Quarry[edit]

I cannot see how to edit the map, but can somebody edit the spelling of Oakeley to its correct version?

Should be simple to download the image and edit in Photoshop (or even Paint) then reupload as a new version. I'll give it a go later on. Eheaps (talk) 20:51, 1 February 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Fixed now! Eheaps (talk) 22:56, 1 February 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
