A good article!

Just forgive me a question: does it duplicate Signalling? Such things could be something to think about, because in my efforts towards a comprehensive category system (and amending the alphabetic index), I've come across quite a few duplicates and seemingly forgotten articles. Things that naturally occur where there is no practical way of seeing what already exists.

(Also written about it in the Den and General queries, but they don't seem much visited.) --IP (talk) 14:08, 28 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I suggest merging the two to get rid of the stub.

I agree - the stub should go. MarkTemple (talk) 15:21, 28 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

OK with me. --IP (talk) 16:24, 28 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hm… I have another suggestion: making a redirect instead of deleting. Should probably have written that, one doesn't always think alike. --IP (talk) 17:59, 28 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Trouble is with redirects you can end up in ever-decreasing loops. I'd rather avoid redirect loops if at all possible.

Marquis DeCarabas (talk) 16:22, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

How do you mean? Links to the redirect? Well, if everyone checked the links they put in and cleaned out after moving an article… the alternative is that many a reader who types in what comes most readily to mind – and "Signalling" is a much better title than "Signals Contents" in that respect – might never find the article. (And perhaps even start a duplicate… I've seen such articles here.) --IP (talk) 17:23, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

As there are only two live links left on Signalling, I would advocate deleting those and renaming Signal Contents to Signalling Contents.

I have no idea about cleaning out links, TBH - I'm only working towards a comprehensive signalling history. <shrug>

Marquis DeCarabas (talk) 17:31, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

If renaming, why not go the whole way and move this article to "Signalling"? I believe it can be done by first making a redirect of that one. I can do it if it's OK. – By "cleaning out" I meant repointing the links to the old title to the new one. --IP (talk) 17:38, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Er... Wouldn't it be better to remove the stub rather than expanding the stub to get rid of this? Or am I confused (uite likely) Your solution seems OK, as long as we end up with only one page that is the central starting point for signalling and signalling related articles.

Marquis DeCarabas (talk) 17:44, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes, my point is ending up with one page called "Signalling". So I suppose I am now waiting for MarkTemple… --IP (talk) 18:43, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Meanwhile, let me advertise a little for "my" category system. I promise to keep it simple. ;-) At the foot of this article, you'll find the category I've put it in. In that category (and its subcategories), I have collected the articles I found concerning S&T (to any larger extent), and some of the files. Perhaps it can be of some use. --IP (talk) 21:54, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Also meanwhile, making a redirect of "Signalling" (without loops). The deletion template can always be put back later if wanted. --IP (talk) 11:27, 1 July 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Just found out that, unlike on the big Wikipedia last I tried, it's not possible to move an article to a redirect. Well, all the more important to have "Signalling" as a redirect to this page. --IP (talk) 19:34, 2 July 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
