Add topicI may be confusing this with another van, but I think originally it did not have a balcony and had a corridor connection on the end door. I recall it being used as a passenger train van and buffet trolley store (the original small trolley with the very bouncy pneumatic tyres) in the 70's.
Possibly it also had side doors too, before the balcony was added?
