Day Log/1879-08-20

From Festipedia, hosted by the FR Heritage Group

On this day there was a meeting of the FR Co. Board, continued from the previous day.

At this meeting the Board adopted the recommendations made by Spoorner, following the request for economies in the wage bill.

Various financial amounts are listed in documentation, but no indication as to how many people were involved. It is noted that Percy Spooner had been appointed Locomotive Superintendant, on a salary of £100, effective from July 1st. This appointment lasted less than a year, due to his resignation, possibly brought on by a private indiscretion.

Whatever the thinking by management or staff, over the next 10 years, the total staff complement rose by five.[1]
