Summary

Caption: Merddin Emrys hauling an up train in the woods above Cei Mawr. Carriage 22 is the second carriage in this rake and shows why it got the name 'Banana' coach.
Date: 17 August 1964
Photographer: Geoff Plumb

Original Caption: Merddin Emrys takes to the woods above the huge Cei Mawr embankment and really gets into its stride with the 14:15 train from Porthmadog to Tan-y-Bwlch. The engine is carrying a temporary paper headboard on the smokebox, "Zoey Goldstraw", apparently fireman Peter Wood's girlfriend, and applied by two loco department volunteers with Driver Evan Davies' permission! Expanded from an original which can be seen here. Ref 968
