John Ivor Jones

From Festipedia, hosted by the FR Heritage Group

John Ivor Jones was a coalman (fuel supplier) for the FR from about 1914 to 1929, although his service might not have been continuous. He was born at Bwlch Golau, Penrhyndeudraeth in 1895. His mother served as crossing keeper for the FR at Penrhyn. In 1927 he married Margaret Williams of Penmorfa and they had one son Harry Wyn Jones who was a great friend of Arwyn Morgan. John Ivor Jones was also employed on the FR as a fireman, but some time in the 1930s he became a locoman at the Oakeley Quarry. He resided at Bron Haul, Ty'n Berllan and finally Ael y Bryn all in Penmorfa. John Ivor Jones was a great friend of Ellis C. Morgan (father to Arwyn), both working at the quarries and both motor cyclists. John was a 'leg puller' pulling faces and teasing the young Harry and Arwyn. He was a loveable character and was highly respected in the community. He died in 1964. (information from Arwyn Morgan).
