John Owen

From Festipedia, hosted by the FR Heritage Group

John Owen was born in 1848 in Penrhyn. He was employed as a guard before 1871 (maybe from the beginning of passenger services). For the 1871 & 81 census his occupation is given simply as "Guard" but in 1891 & 1901 it is "Shunting guard" and that was stated in the accident report when the George Westley accident took place in the goods shed at Harbour Station on 4th March 1881. In 1911/12 he was a crossing keeper living at Ty Fry Terrace (as he had been since about 1891), Penrhyn which probably indicates he was in charge of Penrhyn crossing.
