Myfanwy Williams

From Festipedia, hosted by the FR Heritage Group

Myfanwy Williams was born in 1901 in Rhyd Ddu; her mother ran the post office whilst her father worked in the slate industry. Aged 17, in 1918, she started working for what was then still the NWNGR at Snowdon station, earning 5/- per day.[1]

By 1923, aged 22 with five years' service and now paid 38/- weekly, she had become the Snowdon Station Master, and is referenced in Lt.Col. A.H.L.Mount's report of 29th May 1923, where it is recommended that the station mistress should receive full training and supervision responsibilities in respect of staff and ticket working to Beddgelert, and the locking of points.[2]

With traffic not meeting expectations, Myfanwy Williams was informed by letter on 27th October that her services were no longer required after 3rd November.[3] The letter did invite her to reapply for work the following summer. There is, however, no evidence to suggest that she worked for the WHR again.
