Historical significance Highly significant because it is a building which survives from the period of the railway's greatest prosperity.

It was built about 1872/73 to house the machinery for the weighing of loaded slate wagons going down into Minffordd Yard for transhipment to standard gauge wagons. There were two weighing machines and two tables, supplied by H. Pooley & Sons of Birmingham and wagons were weighed on the move.

The weighing machinery was removed by a working party of the London Area Group of the Festiniog Railway Society in 1972, a century after it was installed. The machinery was retained and remains in store in Minffordd Yard.

Materials and workmanship: Stone (slate); roof timbers (description to be added); joinery (windows and doors) have been renewed. Slate tiles have been re-used (to be confirmed) during its refubishment (see below) . A new concrete floor was laid. The front and both side elevation walls were re-pointed with cement mortar but some lime mortaring on the rear elvation was retained (all to be confirmed). Window and and door joinery items were renewed (to be confirmed).

Description Solid stone walls under a pitched roof. All external walls are un-rendered stonework externally. Internal descriptions to be added when surveyed.
Present use July 2015: used as Commercial Department store
Previous use Weighbridge building circa 1872 – Aug 1946 on (temporary) closure of the railway.

Under the restored FR the building was used as an office by the Permanent Way Department.
