Querying the statement "they were identical in design to coaches supplied by Hudson to the War Department, for use on the military railways, which conveyed personnel and materials to the trenches in WW1". Is there a firm source for "identical in design"? Although the underframe is WDLR in design, I've never seen a reference to, or illustration of, such a carriage in WW1 service. Or indeed of any WDLR "carriages" other than a few locally improvised ones for officers.

This point has now been addressed in the text. FRHJ 125 (Spring 2016) p42 has an interesting letter from Derrick Why with the suggestion that they may have been built for a prison railway in the Anderman Islands by G. R. Turner who had supplied WD type wagons to that line in 1920. If the order for the carriages had been cancelled maybe Turners sold them to Hudsons who supplied them to the FR at a bargain price. It's a possible explanation but no hard evidence so I haven't put it in the main article. --George Cash (talk) 16:49, 19 April 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
