Carriage 150 on its way to the paint shop in May 2015

Carriage 150 is the Railway's latest First Class Observation Car. Whereas the previous Super Barns were of entirely wooden construction above the underframe, this carriage has inner body framing of welded stainless steel around which the wooden bodywork is built, a constructional principle previously used on the purpose-built carriages for the WHR. It has curved end windows derived from Glaslyn and a lowered waistline in the observation section. It has been painted in the deep purple brown "Victorian" livery.

Until its accompanying Service Car (Carriage 125) is complete the new observation car will be used for promotional visits to events around the country. The new carriage is numbered 150 in view of the fact that 2015 is the 150th anniversary of passenger services on the FR. It is planned to display the newly completed carriage 150 at London Paddington during June 2015.
