Welsh Highland Railway Heritage Group

From Festipedia, hosted by the FR Heritage Group

The Welsh Highland Heritage Group has as its aims, 'locate record, categorise and preserve all buildings, bridges, mineral lines, quarries and all other artifacts associated with the former North Wales Narrow Gauge and Welsh Highland Railways with a view to their preservation, restoration and eventual re-incorporation in the rebuilt Welsh Highland Railway'.

The whole WHR trackbed has been surveyed and all the culverts, bridges and so on have been recorded on a 25" map, each with its own reference number.

The Group has been involved with Dinas station building which has been sympathetically restored using original or matching materials, original pattern frames and new iron guttering cast to the original patterns.

The Group is determined that the character of the old WHR be maintained and that, as resources allow, buildings along the route will be restored to their original condition.

Related projects include superb restoration work at Gelert's Farm, including old coaches, a weighhouse and an evocative replica of Nantmor station. They are all Welsh Highland.

It has its own house magazine called the Welsh Highland Heritage Journal, and references to it are usually with the prefix WHHJ, followed by the issue number and page number. It is a quarterly publication.
