Afon Glaslyn

From Festipedia, hosted by the FR Heritage Group

The River Glaslyn (Afon Glaslyn in Welsh) is a river in North Wales. Whilst not of great significance in terms of its length (about 16 miles), it is Gwynedd's primary river, and has greatly influenced the landscape in which it flows.

The Afon Glaslyn estuary is the area bisected by the building of the Cob. It was William Alexander Madocks' intention to reclaim the area for development. However, finance ran out, and with his death, the project was never completed.

The Welsh Highland Railway crosses the river three times, at Bryn y Felin River Bridge, Pont Croesor and Britannia Bridge. Because of this the first WHR observation car was named Glaslyn.
