Following a meeting with Spooner, arising from the letter of 11th August, at Portmadoc, John Conacher wrote again to explain his company (Cambrian) had been losing 5d per ton on its traffic of slate, compared with the GWR and LNWR in transport to London. From the start of 1884 this "5d/ton" had been credited to a suspense account pending settlement of combined rate discussion with the FR Co.. Apparently this was in contradiction to what had been said by the Cambrian Directors on 28th July
