Mike Hart is either a current or recent Director, Staff member or Volunteer on the railways or associated support groups. This entry only appears as a matter of record.

Michael C. Hart.

Boston Lodge apprentice employed for a few months in 1970 whilst gaining experience in his engineering career, later volunteer, later Company Director & Chairman. His own company, Railway Wheelset and Brake Ltd, is involved in the business of supplying railway wheelsets and parts for vacuum brake systems. He was a majority owner of Palmerston until transferring ownership as a gift to FR Trust in July 2000. Owner of WW1 Simplex WDLR LR 2156 original Builder's number MR435 of 1917, (rebuilt to 2' 6" gauge as MR3663) based at Boston Lodge. Briefly owner of Sybil Mary.

Mike Hart has devoted his career to railways, both 'heritage' and mainstream.

His early career with Resco Railways led to Mike eventually setting up Railway Wheelset and Brake Ltd in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, a company specialising in the supply of railway wheelset components to both the mainline and heritage railway industry. After more than twenty years, Mike continues to lead the Company as both Chairman and owner of the business.

A keen interest in 'heritage' railways led Mike to an association with a number of lines including the Kent and East Sussex Light Railway where he started work as a volunteer while still at school but it is his past and present contribution to the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways for which Mike is best known.

A former Chairman of the Ffestiniog Railway Company, Mike remains an active Director and combines this with the role of Chairman to the subsidiary Welsh Highland Railway Construction Company.

Without the drive, determination, initiative and persuasive powers of Mike, the Welsh Highland Railway would have remained nothing more than a distant dream - an accolade fully deserved![1]

Mike was created an O.B.E. in the 2010 New Year's Honours List. His citation read "Michael Clifford Hart, Director, Ffestinog Railway Company and Chairman, Welsh Highland Railway Construction Ltd. For services to the Rail Industry."[2]
