Has anyone got a photograph of Dduallt signal box? It would be good to add one to this page to illustrate how quite recent signalling artefacts fast disappear. - Mark Temple

I might have one, but would need to check with the copyright holder.

On another matter, I'm not convinced that the FR was worked as one engine in steam during 1946 - the telephones were still maintained until closure due to income from the rented lines. More research is needed, but OES working seems very unlikely. Marquis DeCarabas (talk) 02:25, 23 March 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Does anyone know when Centralised Traffic Control was introduced? MarkTemple (talk) 16:52, 20 April 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Track circuits[edit]

The FR uses a number of track circuits to detect the position/absence of trains for interlocking purposes.

Are there any problems with track circuits; for example, would the low tonnage of traffic allow the rails to get rusty and prevent correct operation of the track circults.

Are special kinds of track circuits used to overcome the rustiness problem? FarleyBrook (talk) 04:15, 30 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Black on Red Semaphore[edit]

While the black on red semaphore may be historically correct, the contrast of these two dark colours is poor. More recent signals use white on red, where the contrast of light (white) on dark (red) is much better. FarleyBrook (talk) 10:28, 18 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Token sections[edit]

Hi, I was wondering whether anyone had any information about FR token sections. I understand that longer token sections can being formed by combining two shorter sections. Examples of this would include Tanybwlch to Rhiw Goch and Rhiw Goch to Minfford. Are there any other locations on the FR where this happens? Current F&WHR sections are as follows:
  • Caernarfon - Dinas (Staff and ticket)
  • Dinas - Waunfawr (Staff and ticket)
  • Waunfawr - Rhyd Ddu (Staff and ticket)
  • Rhyd Ddu - Beddgelert (Staff and ticket)
  • Beddgelert - Pont Croesor (Staff and ticket)
  • Pont Croesor - Porthmadog (Staff and ticket)
  • Portmadoc - Minffordd (Miniature ETS) - Note spelling of Portmadoc is as it appears engraved on staffs - Intermediate machine at Boston Lodge
  • Minffordd - Tanybwlch (Miniature ETS) - Intermediate machine at Rhiw Goch
  • Can be split into two sections either side of Rhiw Goch with full size ETS when full section token is placed in the frame at Rhiw Goch
  • Tanybwlch - Tanygrisiau (Miniature ETS) - Intermediate machine at Dduallt
  • Tanygrisiau - Blaenau (Miniature ETS) - Intermediate machine at Glanypwll
It is hoped to re-equip the WHR sections with a variant of METS
