Allan Garraway at Harbour Station in the 1960s

Allan George Weldon Garraway, MBE, MA, CEng, MIMechE, MCIT was the first general manager of the revived Festiniog Railway. Garraway gained railway experience in the Royal Engineers before working for British Railways. Having spent time volunteering on the Talyllyn and Festiniog Railways, in 1955 he left BR to work full time as manager of the Festiniog Railway.

Later appointed general manager, Garraway was regularly seen out on the line, usually driving Linda. He continued to manage the FR until the completion of the line's reopening to Blaenau Ffestiniog in 1983. In retirement Garraway moved to Scotland and continued to be involved in railway preservation. He died in 2014. (more...)
