Llanfair

A 3ft gauge De Winton 0-4-0VBT built in 1895 for use in the Penmaenmawr granite quarries. This interesting type of locomotive, used in many North Wales slate quarries, was built in Caernarfon at works opposite the WHR(C) terminus and was obtained for museum display in the sealed bid auction following the closure of the Gloddfa Ganol collection; it is believed that the ex-Penrhyn loco Kathleen would have been preferred, but a higher bid was made. Llanfair remains in Dinas Goods Shed and formed part of the temporary museum display there. It is intended that the loco may eventually be displayed at Caernarfon Station as and when development there offers a suitable location.
