Den

From Festipedia, hosted by the FR Heritage Group

The Den was the staff mess room and amenities block at Boston Lodge, ref. 101 on the plan. A single-storey building in the style of its time, it came into use in 1977 adjacent to the former brass shop ref. 98.[1] It replaced a facility in the building now used as the Electrical Workshop (104). The 1977 building occupied part of the site of the old Sawmill.

The 1977 building was demolished in February 2023. It was in poor confition, included some asbestos, and the facilities were inadequate for preesent levels of activity. Works are in progress to replace this building with a new larger two-storey amenities building which will look like the old sawmill, incorporating the surviving frontage of the sawmill (currently used as an oil store) and including the present electrical workshop. It can be said that the Den is moving back to its 'traditional' (1950s-60s-70s) home, but with much improved space and amenities. Temporary staff amenities have been brought in for the period until the new building is ready.
