Length of FR[edit]

How much longer is the FR from PM to BF as a result of the spiral deviation? FarleyBrook (talk) 04:11, 7 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The length can be calculated from an article in the last Heritage Group Journal, No.121, spring 2015. There is a table on page 16 which gives the present chainage of the old mile posts. If we take the location of original milepost 3/4 (Groesffordd) which under the current system is given as 12m 75c 14y and at the other end of the Deviation Dduallt station, 3 1/2 miles, 9m 43c 17y. Originally that was 2 3/4 miles; now it is 3miles 31 chains 19 yards, a change of 51 chains 19 yards (if I have done the calculation correctly).

However, that does not take into account the 1852 deviation near the Foundry House, Tanygrisiau or the rerouting through the original Moelwyn Tunnel.Heritagejim (talk) 08:30, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Whoops! Correction to above. The increased length of the line refers to the 1864 route which I believe was the same as at closure in 1946 unless anyone knows different. Heritagejim (talk) 16:50, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
