Out of three external links I just tried none worked. MarkTemple (talk) 16:29, 5 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It looks like we'll have to delete them then. The original author of the pages (Robert Cadwalader) has passed away, but he was involved with the Porthmadog Maritime Museum. They may have the content of the expired webpages? RedDragon (Send me a telegram) 13:59, 7 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Robert Cadwalader is secretary of the Porthmadog Maritime Museum. I had a Facebook Direct Message from him only a week ago.MarkTemple (talk) 16:24, 7 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Apologies, I wasn’t concentrating whilst typing. I subconsciously mixed him up with Keith, the original author of the page. The perils of a late night! In any case, the maritime museum would be the place to ask to see if the old pages are saved somewhere. RedDragon (Send me a telegram) 18:58, 7 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Possible page merge[edit]

It seems to me that this page and Portmadoc Harbour cover the same subject. I propose merging the pages together. The external origin of the content on this page can be acknowledged by making it a separate section of the Portmadoc Harbour page with a suitable introduction. Any thoughts? Ed - Eheaps (talk) 22:29, 8 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes, I think that’s a good idea. RedDragon (Send me a telegram) 07:41, 9 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The Portmadoc Maritime page is an article by Robert Cadwalader, secretary of Porthmadog Maritime Museum. Should he be consulted? Otherwise I agree. MarkTemple (talk) 08:02, 9 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

If you are in contact, it can do no harm to ask. However I think as long as his text is kept together and suitably acknowledged there shouldn't be a problem. Ed - Eheaps (talk) 08:55, 9 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Message set to Robert Cadwalader just now: "Dear Robert, I thought I should let you know that we are planning to make some changes to Festipedia pages that relate to Portmadoc harbour and shipping. Our current proposal is to merge the pages Porthmadog Harbour and Porthmadog Maritime. The latter is an article written by you. Our intention is to keep your text is together and acknowledge you as the author. I hope you are happy with this. I have restored many of the links from the page "Portmadoc Maritime" to the Maritime Museum web site and I hope this directs Festipedia users to it. With best wishes, Mark MarkTemple (talk) 09:12, 9 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Robert Cadwalader has given us the thumbs up sign. MarkTemple (talk) 09:42, 9 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I will try and find time to carry out the merge later today or tomorrow. Ed - Eheaps (talk) 09:11, 11 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Contents Development[edit]

I have a further development to suggest which is in keeping with the UNESCO bid and the growing theme of connecting quarries, railways and shipping. I propose we add a further row to the User Friendly Contents =

Header Row: ______WHR______________________Misc._____________________FR

New Row: ___Port & shipping_______________Other Ports____________Port & shipping

2nd New Row: (Caernarfon)___________(Dinorwig & Penrhyn)________________

We will be short of some material but it will be fun looking it up.

I quite like this idea, although I would suggest making sure that the articles are in place with a good amount of content (not just stubs) before making the additions to the index. Ed - Eheaps (talk) 09:11, 11 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Your point is well taken. I will try to work on the pages we need. I think with this further development in mind we should not merge Portmadoc Port and Portmadoc Maritime. Mark MarkTemple (talk) 09:25, 11 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I remain to be convinced that the two articles cover different topics. Could you briefly outline what each article might cover and why they are distinct? Ed - Eheaps (talk) 12:56, 11 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The differences are the development of the port and the development of the the shipping that used it. I have uploaded two fine pictures of slate ships at Caernarfon from the Coflein web site but I am unsure about copyright issues. I have sent RCAHW an enquiry. MarkTemple (talk) 17:37, 11 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I can see that would work, we need to make sure that content is in the correct articles and should try to avoid too much duplication. Perhaps an introductory paragraph added to each article explaining what the article covers and linking to the other. Ed - Eheaps (talk) 22:09, 11 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I am still working to sort out the old links in this article which do not work etc. There are a lot of places where there are double vertical lines like this: ||. Do you know the origin of these and should I take them out? MarkTemple (talk) 18:09, 13 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That's the markup for tables that was valid when we were using Usemod. See http://www.usemod.com/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?WikiPatches/TableSyntax for details --Peter Harrison (talk) 18:24, 13 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dear Peter, I rather struggle with tables in Festipedia. Are you able and willing to recreate the tables as you think they were in this article? MarkTemple (talk) 19:44, 13 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Done --Peter Harrison (talk) 20:06, 13 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dear Peter, Thanks. The page is looking much better. MarkTemple (talk) 22:20, 13 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
