Lister 56371
With Motor Rail Dolgarrog unavailable for service in early 2008, a replacement was needed for use on construction rail haulage duties close to the head of steel, where heavier units could not operate.
Salvation came in the form of this Lister 4wDM (56371 of 1970) owned by Brian Faulkner. Its lightweight construction made it ideal for use on newly-built track while being powerful enough to move rail movers as well as construction vehicles and personnel.
It is believed to have been the last locoomtive built at Lister's Dursley workrs, and it was originally delivered to H.M. Detention Centre, Freiston, Lincolnshire.
The locomotive was purchased for preservation in 2005 and was moved in April of that year to a private site in Gloucestershire for restoration, which was completed by July 2007.
The locomotive was delivered to the WHR via LC105 at Hafod Garregog on 8 February 2008. It worked on track laying duties for two months in place of the unserviceable Dolgarrog. On 10 April, it was the first locomotive to run onto the new Pont Croesor, the then location of the head of steel. It was due to travel to Rhyd Ddu the next day for return to its owner.
It returned to north Wales to attend the Quirks & Curiosities event on the FR from 30 April to 2 May 2010.
