License tags for photographs[edit]

Hi Stewart

I'm afraid there is no easy way of identifying which photos are yours. Usemod did not log uploads, it just uploaded the file and made it available. I was hoping that the category page for Category:Uploader unsure of copyright status would include a gallery of all the photos, which would make it a little easier, but it seems that Perl's memory management isn't up to handling the processing required to put that many thumbnails on a page so I've had to put the __NOGALLERY__ magic word on the category page. I'm still working on it to see if I can find a fix for that. Sorry I haven't got a better answer for you. I won't be surprised if a lot of the existing photos never get proper license tags - I may create a new tag to be used for those that don't get claimed. Since I can see you have the necessary skills, feel free to do so yourself. I like the boxes you've put at the head of your User and User talk pages. --Peter_Harrison 10:00, 3 March 2007

Prince (Pictorials)[edit]

Stewart Initially that was what I wanted for the PV pages. However someone came up with the thing that they would have to switch pages to see what was being said, so some of the text was transferred. What I now will do (in relation to increased bandwidth) is reduce the main page for Prince to all thumbs and see what comments come back. Give it a few days and then convert rest of the 'groupe of PV pages' similarly Keith 10:37, 3 March 2007

cheek[edit]

I know there were typos - and some were meant as a northern talking. can I have your comment on the proposed (mail'll do) since you have seen whats been going on --Keith 21:42, 5 March 2007

Normal relations have been restored - thanks for comment --Keith 22:36, 10 March 2007

Sorry for deletion - thought given nature, it could have gone --Keith 22:43, 10 March 2007

Prince Pictorials[edit]

I have seen and approve of the changes to Prince's photos. He is going to the opening of the WHR(P) extension on 23rd March so i will try the new software and attempt to add that to the file.

Chris

Photos credits[edit]

Hi Stewart

I see you are working on photo credits. This standard is going to take a lot of keeping up to! Can you not leave it just as a credit (where provided) to the photographer? I don't seek credit for my photos, so you won't find any reference for mine.

Chris J

User page heading[edit]

Stewart - I have taken the liberty of making the heading you have been putting on user pages into a template. You will find it at "Template:Leave me a message". The template removes most of the hardcoding in the url and should work on any user page or user talk but not on non-user pages. It won't work correctly on subpages either but that should be easy to fix if required - change the PAGENAMEE to BASEPAGENAMEE. I did think about using #ifeq statements to stop it producing anything if it was used anywhere other than the User or User talk namespaces but decided that was going too far! --Peter_Harrison 10:29, 6 March 2007

Template Deviation Locator[edit]

Template:Deviation Locator - cheers Stewart --Keith 11:10, 6 March 2007

Harbour Pictorials[edit]

The reason I was going for the alternate indent was to "design the page" - took me some time to get it right!, with the captions within pix and text flowing where it existed --Keith 22:44, 10 March 2007

Your Credits[edit]

Stewart

I have been bolding them as with you changing ID around (Pencefn/SDM) wasnt sure which way

Now you have amended C101, I will continue with that form.

PS See we have a first spammer on Mountaineer II

--Keith 08:38, 14 March 2007

Loco availability[edit]

Stewart - Can we lose the date off the list completely and just keep it up to date. Otherwise it'll end up like SZBs mods log with a load of out of date rubbish that none will want to read!

Chris j

Inclined to agree. The loco pages will indicate the history of the modifications, rebuilds, etc. It would also remove the risk of multiple entries conflicting. Just like the HNB SSR. --Stewart 17:46, 17 April 2007

Copyright on RJJPLummer photo[edit]

Stewart - this is part of the FR archives - hence copywright is granted through Adrian

Chris

Appropriate tag will be added on this basis. --Stewart 23:52, 27 April 2007

Template:ImageCaption[edit]

Sorry about the delay getting back to you on this - I've been a bit preoccupied for the last week or so.

To suppress section editing, add __NOEDITSECTION__ to the page (or, in this case, the template). That turns off section editing for the page --Peter_Harrison 14:42, 1 May 2007

Template:TextImage[edit]

Nice one - except it has a 700 px limiter on it. Up it to 800 and I think it would get more use (ok so mine are normally 640 so I can use it on mine!!) --Keith 09:18, 10 May 2007

Keith - I will push it up to 775px. I am concious of the maximum width of screen that some computers are set to. Stewart 10:35 (EST), 10 May 2007
Stewart - in practice it is no good for pix under whatever the value is. I thought we werent going to limit as the size can be set by the user settings??? --Keith 23:06, 21 May 2007

FR Co. Pictures[edit]

On the pages I have culled from the old Company website, most of the pics I believe to be from Ian Butters, as an FR employee. However, given the situation in that area, I have never credited as such. This results in "Unknown Photographer". I have just changed 1 to show [[FR Co.]]. Comment please on the way to go on this (also posted to PeterH id) --Keith 23:08, 21 May 2007

Template:ImageCaption[edit]

Thanks for the tip Stewart, I hadn't realised that: very cool. Dan_Crow 17:41, 15 July 2007

Picture of Portmadoc 1875[edit]

This is a John Thomas picture - probably taken at the same time as the Duffws pictures of JS, ME, LW, LG & WP - hence more likely to be 1880-82 - but I can't prove it!

Chris J - 25/7

Thanks Chris - Traced through to the source and put in the attribution to John Thomas. Date is another matter. --Stewart 15:10, 25 July 2007

Possible side effect from recent update[edit]

Thanks for your message Stewart. You are absolutely right about this change. I regarded it as a bug fix, perhaps wrongly. I looked at a page where some images had sort keys, others did not and thought it looked a bit odd. I then looked at MediaWiki code and found that they were not displaying the sort keys for images and changed our code to match. I'm not sure what the right answer is here. I'll take a look at MediaWiki's Bugzilla and see if there are any useful pointers there --Peter_Harrison 15:26, 5 August 2007

Hi Stewart

In the interest of removing clutter, can I remove the side on view after restoration? The colour is poor and the more recently added 3/4 view at the same time(also by you!) is much better?

Chris

Thanks for the welcome[edit]

As you might have guessed, I'm an L&B man at heart, but living in Kent, neither the L&B nor the FR are exactly on my doorstep!

I visited the FR some years ago, and was very impressed, we at the L&B have a great deal to learn from your achievements!

Thanks,

Old line photo[edit]

I will upload this photo again - did you spot the deliberate mistake? It is back to front. THat slide has no markings and it was only when I looked at the emulsion I realised my mistake. None of those picture uploaded this afternoon are mine, they were taken by Brian Taylor, a LAG member who died about 10 years ago. I was given all his collection with the inference that the copyright came with them.

Jim

Stewart,
I don't really understand what you want to do but as you seem to know what you are doing just go ahead. I have a lot more of David Taylor's slides and am not really sure what is there. The ones I uploaded were just some I had used for a talk.
I still have a lot more of my slides to scan and I will see what I can do in the next few days - after that I will probably be too involved with Christmas.
Jim

Deletion proposed[edit]

It took a little while to sort this out. I can see what has happened with the templates you named and I suspect this is the cause with the other template you mention.

The reason the deletion template appears in Template:Cite book is that it transcludes Template:Template doc. It appears twice on that page because it transcludes both Template:Pp-template (in a noinclude section) and Template:Template doc inline both of which contain the deletion template.

The date is a simple mistake on my part - the deletion template should have used subst when calling #time. I have fixed that so future uses of the template should be correct.

I hope that all makes sense! --Peter_Harrison (talk) 20:48, 14 December 2007

Peter Jarvis[edit]

This page is throwing a wobbler - says account not registered - presume something the way in which Pencefn and SDM are linked???. Nice to hear from you.

The Pedr page was updated with input from the man himself, hence removal of Trefor Owen and adding Paul and Jenny. Whilst I would in no way denegrate the work put in by anyone, I thought the comment as was, at least gave credit to the other people (who are not Drs.) involved, not just any specific group. --Keith (talk) 2008-3-18T17:50:28 (UTC)

WHR Routemap in Wikipedia[edit]

I went, I saw, I changed.

I hope the changes done, meet with approval --Keith (talk) 2008-4-20T07:27:15 (UTC)

Addition - Kevin did another change after at 14:04 to 2 points - changes are minimal, and ?maybe? debatable.

Traeth M never a station/halt - just a stop point but how else would you represent it other than as he has done

Harbour - given this is currently changing, not worth pursuing. --Keith (talk) 2008-4-20T16:52:39 (UTC)

Category naming[edit]

Just a thought.

You have categorised the Boyd-FR1 cite template as Rail transport book citation templates.
It just seems overly specific.

2 ways of looking at it - a) keep as such to ensure a degree of commonality with world wiki (although I couldnt find anything like it there), or
b) reduce down to just citations as the usage and alternates will be minimal

Use of a shorter, single word, name would be conducive to easier usage

information request[edit]

Good evening Stewart, (2011-03-26-2209) Quick question.

Do you have any images of the model of "james spooner" (the not very fine scale one that was built by winson engineering) It would be very helpful if you do!

Can you email me? send to sara(dot)shrives(at)btinternet(dot)com All the best Sara 81.129.24.118 (talk) 22:09, 26 March 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
