Locomotives (Visiting, FR)

From Festipedia, hosted by the FR Heritage Group

A list of engines that have visited the Ffestiniog Railway.

Before 1954[edit]

Steam[edit]

A number of quarry steam locomotives are believed to have visited the railway before the Great War. Some are believed to have visited Boston Lodge for repairs while others may have been delivered over the FR. Such locomotives include:

The Festiniog & Blaenau Railway had an end-on junction with the FR, so it is likely that its locomotives also visited FR metals, especially as FR locomotives assisted on the F&B.

In addition, the Welsh Highland Railway's Russell, Moel Tryfan and Baldwin visited the line during the period of joint control during the 1930s.

Working industrial petrol/diesel locomotives[edit]

Since 1954[edit]

Long term visitors[edit]

Whilst not part of the FR fleet these locomotives have worked (or are expected to work) on the line in the long term.

Guests for events etc.[edit]

These locomotives were operated or displayed on the line as guests at special events or during a short visit. The locomotives are grouped by the date of their first visit.
