Carriage 2043 is a WHR third class saloon carriage.

Background[edit]

Basically similar to carriages 2040, 2041 and 2042, construction work on this vehicle started at Boston Lodge on 7 July 2006, followed shortly afterwards by carriages 2044 and 2045.

Steelwork for 2043 arrived at Boston Lodge at end of June 2006. Construction started on 03/07/06 and 3 weeks later the underframe was at an advanced stage.

2043 contains 34 standard 3rd class seats, plus an additional "origami seat" which can fold away for wheelchairs. It is of the longer 13m length used for Pullman coach Bodysgallen 2115. The extra length is used to provide double doors (as per 2090) at one end, to provide easy access for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Note the much stronger construction compared with Nos. 2040-42 etc., with the stout connecting pieces between the two central longitudinal members.

In Service[edit]

2043 was delivered to Dinas on May 20th 2007, and entered service in the E-set later in June 2007.
